The Comprehensive College/Comprehensive Secondary School at Ármúli in Reykjavík is organized on unit credit basis. The school year is divided into two terms of 14,5 weeks each, and a course covered in two weekly lessons of forty minutes each for one term carries one credit. Most units are two- and three-credit courses. Each course is given a three-digit number, where the first digit indicates the placement of the course whithin a study sequence, i.e. a course number in the 100's is the first course in a subject offered by the school, eventually followed by a "200" course etc. The middle digit distinguishes parallel or alternative courses, and the last digit denotes the number of credits.
The grading system is on a 1-10 scale. The minimum requirement for each subject is 5,0. On the last term it is permitted to have two subjects graded 4,0. No credit is, however, given for a course if the grades are below minimum.
Although the normal period of study is four years, gifted students can graduate in 3½ years or even 3 years. There is also flexibility in the other direction: students may extend their studies a year and a half beyond the normal four years.
All our students have completed 10 years of compulsory education and all the programs consist of full-time school study.
